Mental Health Therapy services explained...
Niche Mental Health Therapy is for people who have diagnosable mental health disorders. If you do not know if you have a disorder, we can work on finding that out together.
The American Psychiatric Association’s DSM-5-TR, which defines the criteria for diagnosing mental health disorders, indicates that mental health symptoms need to cause “clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning” to be considered diagnosable. Perhaps, these symptoms are what our clients consider their “rock bottom.” This is a place of unbearable distress they need support managing.
Niche Mental Health Therapy aims to provide clients with tools to address symptoms which significantly impact their life functioning. Our Niche Therapist, Zane, will help you identify and manage mental health symptoms, alleviate distress, and move towards remission (if possible). Problematic symptoms could be cognitive, emotional, interpersonal, behavioral, traumatic… Whatever challenges you have decided to work on we will tackle together.
Treatment will consist of predictable and standard stages of treatment.

Addiction is a mental health issue too...
Zane has years of training and experience treating substance use disorders (SUD), mental health (MH) disorders, and co-occurring disorders (COD - both SUD and MH disorders occurring simultaneously). Zane can assess, diagnose, and discretely treat clients with many of these disorders.
Formal SUD and COD interventions provided at treatment centers can be very helpful. However, those services may not be for everyone. Zane provides only one-on-one online SUD and COD services, follows a philosophy of harm reduction, and helps client reach out to find social support when pursuing recovery goals. Zane is not currently engaging in legally mandated SUD treatment services.

Experience and change...
Change takes time. Be patient with yourself when you embark on a therapeutic path. Zane is here to help, support, teach, and coach. However, mental health therapy is similar to other life changes like dieting and fitness; it takes time and commitment to see results. Please understand breaking down unhelpful habits and creating new ones takes time. Be prepared for that.
Zane is NOT a prescriber of psychiatric medications, but a provider of therapeutic interventions. Medications may alleviate symptom severity quickly, but may not entirely fix the problem. Therapy takes time that can ultimately lead to lasting change. Recovery from symptoms is possible. Please contact your primary medical care provider if you are interested in medication management to treat your mental health symptoms.
As for experience treating specific diagnoses, Zane has worked in community outpatient SUD, MH, and COD services with clients from ages 9+. He has worked with elderly adults in hospice care, helped clients with severe SUD and COD issues enter remission, treated clients with psychotic disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, and provided trauma therapy to clients with years of trauma history. If you have questions about Zane’s ability to help you, just contact him (509.981.0757 or email) and open a dialogue. If he does not think he can help you, he will hopefully be able to help you find the right therapist who can.
