Niche Courses are private lessons, discussions, or sessions regarding specific subjects with a professionally trained and experienced therapist / mental wellness coach. Niche Courses are for curious individuals (or groups/businesses) that want to explore new ideas, build skills, and forego commitment to on-going therapy or mental wellness / life coaching. Niche Courses are NOT mental health therapy. A mental health diagnosis is not required to participate nor will a diagnosis be provided.

How Niche Courses work…

A) Choose a Niche Course from the list below.
B) Select the participants.
Niche Courses are available for individuals, couples, or groups of up to 8 people. For groups of more than 8 people please inquire about price differences.
• The Brené Brown Shame Resilience Training Group is designed for groups of 2-6 with a maximum of 12 participants.
C) Choose your location.
• Zane can provide virtual (online) instruction or travel to you for the meeting (e.g., home, business, or other location within Spokane Region).
D) Schedule your meetings with Zane.
• Sessions can be experienced in many ways (e.g., 1 x 4-hour session, 2 x 2-hour sessions, 4 x 60-minute sessions, 12 x 90-minute sessions, etc.).

Niche Course offerings…

  • Niche Mental Wellness Management

    $500 for four 60-minute psychoeducational sessions.

    *In-person sessions may be available at your location within the Spokane Region. Virtual sessions available.

    What is coping? How can I improve my ability to manage life? You may be physically working out and eating well, but are you strengthening your mental wellbeing? Check out this Niche Course and grab new skills (or refresh old ones) to better mange psychological, emotional, and behavioral health.

    Over four sessions, you and Zane will review foundational ideas and strategies to increase your ability to manage unhelpful thoughts, unmanageable emotions, and self-defeating behaviors.

    Session 1 identifies your current goals, strengths, and barriers, highlights ideas from the world’s most well-researched therapy style, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and addresses how CBT may help participants improve their mental wellbeing. CBT focuses on the interconnectedness of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The next three sessions will address one of these dimensions (i.e., thoughts, feeling, behaviors).

    Session 2 takes a deep dive into managing unhelpful thoughts and provides a bag full of skills to do so. This session is particularly helpful for those struggling with ruminating (non-stop) thoughts.

    Session 3 teaches participants about feelings and how to manage those that are unhelpful. During this session, participants will learn the Acute Critical Incident Desensitization (ACID) technique for managing critical incidents and unmanageable feelings.

    Session 4 reviews concepts introduced in earlier sessions and discusses ways to change self-defeating behaviors. This session will include helpful tips to pursue change in your life (e.g., timers, cognitive dissonance, etc.).

  • Niche Addiction

    $275 for two 60-minute psychoeducational sessions.

    $500 for four 60-minute psychoeducational and/or therapeutic sessions.

    What is a Substance Use Disorder? What does addiction mean? What are possible signs of addiction? Addiction is a hot and stigmatizing topic. Therefore, Niche Therapy has created this Niche Course for people who want discuss substance addiction in a safe and non-judgmental setting with a professionally licensed Substance Use Disorder therapist. This course is designed for people suffering from substance use or those wanting more information to support a loved one. Sometimes, we need to hear ourselves talk out loud about our concerns to jump start change.

    Session 1 reviews needs of the participant(s) and discusses what a substance use disorder is and what it is not. Maybe you have been thinking your substance use (or that of a friend or family member) is out of hand. Maybe you’re just curious. You and Zane can take an hour to review the behavioral issue that is addiction.

    Session 2 reviews different types of substance use (e.g, experimental, recreational, etc.), withdrawals, post-acute withdrawal symptoms (PAWS), early recovery, and how substance use disorders can be treated, If you need, a personal and confidential screening for drug and alcohol problems can be provided (NOT an assessment), and you will be provided resources for further exploration or help.

    Session 3 & 4 are used to help participants create a plan to reach their specific wellness goals. For some participants, their plans may revolve around harm reduction (reducing harm of their use). For others, the plan may be about abstinence. Maybe we are looking at addressing mental health challenges, interpersonal effectiveness, or something else. Plans are specific to each individual based upon their strengths and needs.

  • Niche Mindfulness

    $500 for four 60-minute psychoeducational sessions.

    What is mindfulness? How can mindfulness empower me to be my best self? This course will introduce you to mindfulness and how it relates to better mental health. An entire mental health therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), was created through blending concepts of Eastern philosophy and Western psychology. The result is a therapeutic approach centered on mindfulness with some incredible skills.

    Session 1 introduces mindfulness and how it can be used to regulate thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Participants will also learn the meditation found in Pema Chödrön’s book, The Wisdom of No Escape and The Path of Loving-Kindness, which is based upon precision, gentleness, and letting go. This technique will be applied to managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

    Session 2 introduces Marsha Linehan’s DBT Core Mindfulness skills including Wise Mind, “What” Skills, and “How” Skills. The end of the session will focus mostly on the “What” skills.

    Session 3 will focus heavily on the DBT “How” Skills and ways they can be utilized to manage the three major thoughts identified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (e.g., core beliefs, intermediate thoughts, and automatic thoughts).

    Session 4 reviews the skills learned in the previous 3 sessions, answers questions, then takes time to review how humans are affected by the five ecological systems (i.e., micro, mezzo, exo, macro, and chrono) and the method Chögyam Trungpa uses to cultivate panoramic awareness.

  • Niche Goal & Wellness Booster

    $500 for four 60-minute sessions.

    How can I create more balance in my life? What skills that can help me move forwards but also protect me from recycling old habits? Over four sessions, you will learn skills to improve your mental wellness and create a plan to achieve personal goals. This Niche Course can be utilized as recurring service every 3-6 months to keep yourself accountable.

    Session 1 centers upon reviewing progress towards your goals over the past 3-6 months, identifying new strengths and barriers in the Niche 6 (i.e., 6 dimensions including biological, psychological, social, cultural, spiritual, financial), and creating new goals for the next 3-6 months.

    Session 2 introduces and/or reviews coping skills: those skills that help you manage unhelpful thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

    Session 3 reviews the fight-flight-freeze response to trauma (big and small), how it relates to you, and then teaches participants the Acute Critical Incident Desensitization (ACID) technique for managing critical incidents.

    Session 4 answers questions raised in the previous 3 sessions, introduces mindfulness as a concept, and provides skills to help you become more mindful throughout your life.

  • Brené Brown's Connections Shame Resilience Training Group

    $2,000 for twelve 90-minute group sessions with groups of 2-6 participants. Groups of 7 or more will be charged an additional $25 per person per session. Max group size 12 participants.

    Yes! Brené Brown’s landmark shame resilience curriculum comes to Niche Therapy. This group will follow the 12-session group curriculum based upon years of Brown’s research regarding shame resilience. It will utilize Brown’s book, I Thought It Was Just Me…, as a learning tool for each session. Videos with Brown speaking, handouts, and in-sessions activities are all created by Brené Brown. Think of this group as a psychoeducational book club that provides lots of room for personal growth through practicing vulnerability and introspection.

    How It Works:
    You choose your group (6 or less people preferred), and Niche Therapy provides the education, processing, and all of the course materials. If you have a group of more than 6 people contact Zane with questions about how to move forward.

    A copy of Brown’s book, I Thought It Was Just Me…, will be sent to each participant as part of the course.

    This course involves deep sharing and vulnerability. Therefore, the target population can include close friends, adult members of families, couples, and groups of people that feel very comfortable around each other. This course will teach about shame and shame resilience, but also requires people to share. Be prepared to open up to others in this course.

  • Niche Shame Resilience Mini Course

    $500 for four 60-minute sessions.

    *In-person sessions may be available at your location within the Spokane Region. Virtual sessions available.

    What is shame resilience? How can I apply these concepts to my life? If you are interested in the Brené Brown's Connections Shame Resilience Training Group but are NOT ready to commit to 12 sessions, this is a brief and packed introduction. All sessions will be based upon Brown’s Connections Curriculum and her book, I Thought It Was Just Me… The sessions will be abbreviated and condensed introductions to her groundbreaking concepts.

    Session 1 describes Brown’s shame resilience concept through understanding shame, defining shame, examining our own shame, and examining what Brown coined WholeHeated living (e.g., authenticity, love and belonging, and a resilient spirit).

    Session 2 examines the cultural aspect of shame as looked at in through shame web and shame box lenses. Next, participants will define resiliency and talk about ways to practice empathy.

    Session 3 explores ways to recognize shame, explores triggers and vulnerabilities, and understanding what Brown labels shame screens.

    Session 4 wraps up the mini course via exploring tools of critical awareness, reaching out, speaking shame, and living authentically.
